Youth Choirs

These choirs are open to all pupils who either attend schools or reside in Bedfordshire, Luton or Milton Keynes.

County Youth Junior Choir is open to girls and boys (with unbroken voices), in Years 6-9, who show enthusiasm for singing, can read music, regularly sing in choir (i.e. their school or a church) and wish to extend the repertoire experienced in their schools. Pupils who outgrow the Junior Choir, may audition for promotion to the Senior Choir. Pupils’ applications are endorsed by the school music teacher’s recommendation.

The Junior Choir is currently directed by Jonathan Hunt.

Courses are held three times a year, during the October, February and May half-terms. The three days of the courses are designed to be intensive, hard work but essentially enjoyable. Courses end with a concert at the end of the third day.

The repertoire for the choir is wide and varied, ranging from madrigals, part-songs, choral numbers from larger works (musicals etc.) folk songs, jazz, close harmony: in fact a whole range of styles and usually several languages.
